Avon Baseball will have four teams competing this summer in various leagues including American Legion, the Farmington Bank / Vantis Life (formerly JC TD Banknorth) League and the Greater Hartford Twilight League.
American Legion
This summer Avon Baseball will again be fielding a Senior American Legion Team. Avon hopes to continue to build on its past Legion successes, having finished in second place in Zone 1 in each of the past two seasons at the Senior level. Returning to coach our Senior Legion program is Brian Doyle.
This summer Avon Baseball will not be offering a Junior American Legion team due to low expected enrollments. Players interested in competing in Junior American Legion can contact Jim Lauzon
and he will help arrange a tryout with neighboring American Legion towns. Avon Baseball plans to resume it’s Junior American Legion program as soon as the enrollment numbers support such a move.
Tryouts for Avon’s Senior Legion team will be held June 2
nd at 5pm and 3
rd at Noon at Avon Old Farms Baseball Diamond. Players must have been born in 1993, 1994 or 1995 to be eligible for Senior Legion. For those selected for the team, the registration fee will be $350. Please visit

Farmington Bank / Vantis Life League (FBVL)
This summer Avon Baseball will be fielding teams in both the Junior and Prep divisions of the Farmington Bank / Vantis Life League (formerly the Jaycee/TD Bank League). Last year’s Junior team was a playoff qualifier and ultimately won a silver medal in the Connecticut Nutmeg games. This will be Avon’s first year fielding a team in the Prep division, which is exclusively for players 13 years of age. Brian Preleski returns to coach the Junior team and Bob Emery takes over the reins of the Prep team. The FBVL regular season begins in early June and extends through July with potential playoffs extending into early August. The FBVL is a ‘travel’ league requiring teams to travel to neighboring towns in the Greater Hartford area with games on weeknights and weekends.
Players interested in trying out for the FBVL Prep Team must be Babe Ruth age 13. In addition, the prep team plans to participate for the first time in the Babe Ruth 13 Year Old All Star Tournament in July and will require that players be available for both games and for practices associated with the tournament. The first round of the tournament will be the District Championships and they will occur July 1
st to July 8
th. If Avon wins the Districts they will advance to the State Championships the next week in July.
Players interested in trying out for the FBVL Juniors Team must be Babe Ruth ages 13 – 15. Those players that are 13 years old and not interested in the commitment of the Prep team can tryout for this team.
There will be a skills evaluation over Memorial Day weekend (days and times to be announced) for both the Prep and Juniors Team. For those selected for a team, the registration fee will be $250. Please visit
www.avonbaseball.net to register for the Avon FBVL Prep and Junior Team Tryout. A fee of $10 will be charged for the two day tryout.
